It was August 2015. School had just started and we found ourselves with a few extra hours in the morning. After a long summer of fun and indulgence, several of us moms needed to sweat it out on a regular basis. My friend Becca asked if I could run a few of the ladies through some intervals at the grassy park outside of Handley High school. We met there after preschool drop off. A Facebook message was soon started in order to communicate about the workouts and friends added a few more friends. Within a few weeks, the message thread had grown and included many people I’d never even met. New faces started showing up and I found myself, very unintentionally, teaching a fitness class. I love teaching, and I love meeting new people, and my friends were so grateful for the free classes. As the group grew, I started to see how popular this mom-based fitness program was becoming. I started contemplating how I could share this community of women with the rest of Winchester.
Carley started coming to the free classes and emailed me a long message about taking this program to the next level, or at the very least finding an indoor location for the winter months. She was passionate about women’s fitness and had experience in sales and marketing. She was persuasive but I wasn’t quite ready to focus all of my energy into starting a company. My family was seriously considering a move to Maryland and I was in the process of selling my home. I didn’t have the time to dedicate to a business.
The weather turned colder and I was able to secure an indoor location at Snowden Bridge. Classes were only offered 3 days a week and I began selling punch passes in order to cover the cost of fitness equipment and rental space. By January 2016, I was managing payment, member questions, and social media. I could see how this program was spreading by word of mouth and the class sizes were growing each week. It was time to expand, and I needed help! I called Carley and together we formulated our plan for expansion, branding, marketing, and membership benefits. HIIT Like A Girl, LLC became an operating business in the State of Virginia in February 2016.
The classes you attend now haven’t changed much since the first days of school last year. HIIT is the core of our program and women’s fitness is still our passion. Kids are always welcome at our classes and our entire mission is to change the lives of women by offering quality fitness in a fun environment. It is our wish that you make friendships at HIITLAG that will last a lifetime. As we continue to grow – opening a location in Staunton, VA this summer – HIITLAG will always remain faithful to the women of Winchester. These strong moms pushed us to get started and kept us growing.
Celebrate our Anniversary with us on Wednesday, August 31st with a FREE class (6AM or 10AM) followed with refreshments. Sign up for a Monthly Membership in September and receive a free registration fee. Learn more about Our Classes and be sure to join our Facebook page for updated information.
